Craft Distiller House Spirits Moves to Portland's Burgeoning Central Eastside
July 15, 2014
PORTLAND, OR. – July 10, 2014 – Harsch Investment Properties, a privately-held real estate investment, development and management company, has signed a 13,924 square-foot lease with craft distilling pioneer House Spirits Distillery. House Spirits’ new distillery and tasting room, the largest in Oregon, will be located in Harsch’s three-block, 1.976 acre industrial complex at 68 SE Stark Street in Portland’s Central Eastside Industrial District. The company will take occupancy of the transformed space following completion of a custom build out in November 2014.

“Our partnership with Harsch Investment Properties to develop the largest distilling operation in Oregon is the culmination of a dream that is ten years in the making,” said Thomas Mooney, Co-Owner & CEO of House Spirits. He added, “Our origins were humble, but along the way we established ourselves as one of the most innovative craft distilleries in the world, and our business began to grow by leaps and bounds. Demand for Aviation American Gin, Westward Oregon Straight Malt Whiskey and our other award-winning spirits finally met up with our capacity to produce them, and we’re thrilled to have found a site in our historical home of SE Portland that will meet growing demand for many years to come.”

“The Central Eastside area of Portland is experiencing a tremendous cultural and economic renaissance right now,” said Harsch Investment Properties President Jordan D. Schnitzer. “We are proud to be a partner with House Sprits as part of this revitalization and are thrilled seeing some of Oregon’s most celebrated and growing companies root themselves here, fostering a unique business community in this dynamic neighborhood.”

House Spirits is one of the undisputed leaders of America’s craft distilling revolution. House Spirits’ products include its flagship Aviation American Gin, which is the highest rated gin in the world (97 Points, Wine Enthusiast), Westward Oregon Straight Malt Whiskey, Krogstad Aquavit, Volstead Vodka and a number of other limited release spirits. Recognized as a leader in its industry, the company serves as president of the American Craft Spirits Association and a regional chair of the Distilled Spirits Council of the United States’ small distiller affiliate program.

Harsch’s property, formerly home to Dealers Supply, is located within Portland’s Central Eastside Industrial District, which has become a hub for Portland’s entrepreneurs and creative workforce through the region’s redevelopment into modernized properties and dynamic spaces. The property is adjacent to the iconic Olympic Mills Commerce Center and near locally-acclaimed restaurants, breweries and gourmet commissaries.

Harsch Investment Properties was represented by Todd DeNeffe of Cascade Commercial Real Estate in the deal. House Spirits was represented by Cara Nolan of CBRE. Mackenzie, an architecture and engineering firm headquartered in Central Eastside Industrial District, is providing design services.
