Portland Business Journal Examines Industrial Design of Harsch's Central Eastside Office Development
July 8, 2016
The Portland Business Journal's Jon Bell takes a look at the design of Harsch's latest development at 129 SE Alder St. and how it ties into Portland's Central Eastside Industrial District.

Designed by Works Partnership Architecture, the nine-story, 90,000-square-foot creative office building boasts a modern look but incorporates elements of neighboring old warehouses to integrate the building with its historically industrial surroundings. WPA Principal Bill Neburka said, “We are very sincere in preserving the industrial nature of the district, even as it’s shifted from heavy equipment and manufacturing to things like digital design and fabrication."

The project is expected to be delivered Q3 2018 and is one example of the Central Eastside micro-district's burgeoning popularity as a commercial center, especially among creative and tech firms. “I think the micro-districts are having as much if not more success than some of the repositioned assets in downtown,” said Jake Lancaster, Managing Director of JLL Portland, who will oversee leasing for the property.
